Kim Trickey

Stop by Old Gringo Boots October 2-4 to see a live art demonstration by Kim Trickey!

Kim P Trickey is consumed with documenting the passion, the grit, and the goodness of the modern American ranch family. She strives to capture the emotion and details of everyday ranch life and convey her passion for the land and animals through drawing and painting. Trickey grew up on a large ranch in rural Arizona, where she immediately fell in love with horses. She was content to spend every waking moment either riding or drawing them. Trickey didn’t have many opportunities to take art classes, but was determined to learn by studying books relating to painting and drawing animals; especially horses.  She continued to pursue her dream by graduating from Arizona State University with a BFA in Art and Art history. Trickey attended workshops by renowned western artists such as Robert “Shoofly” Shufelt and Buck McCain.

In 2008 Trickey received a special invitation to create an ornament for the White House Christmas Tree. She has received many awards throughout her career, including the ‘Best of Show’ Silver Buckle at the “Best of the West” Show in Pinetop, AZ, and also the “People’s Choice Award” at Cheyenne Frontier Days among others. She is also currently a member of Cowgirl Artists of America.  Trickey believes strongly in giving back to those in her community and those in need of help. She has donated many paintings for the benefit of the Western way of life. Recipients include the Cowboy Crisis Fund, FFA, 4H, the Arizona Cattle Growers Research and Education Foundation, and many others. She hopes through her art to pay tribute to, and continue on in the Cowgirl lifestyle. The Trickey’s now reside on their own small ranch in Nutrioso, AZ, where they continue to raise cattle, horses, and grandchildren.
