Blu Dornan

Stop by Will Leather Goods October 2-4 to see a live painting demonstration!

Blu Dornan says “My goal is to put the “WILD” back in western art. Through the use of ink, watercolor , or mixed media, I enjoy depicting action scenes reminiscent of the founding cowboy artists’ work, and heavily influenced by Will James, Ed Borein, and Charlie Russell. I rarely use models, staged scenes, or photography, but instead rely mostly on my imagination or personal cowboy experiences. I competed on the rodeo circuit roping calves most of my life. Now I transmute that adrenaline rush onto the paper living vicariously through the scenes I create. I typically do not use any drawing aids such as projectors, grids, or tracing paper. Instead, I focus more on the feeling and drama of the scenes. My rigorous drawing practice shows in my work giving it a unique, raw, but authenitic feel. Nothing pleases me more than when real working cowboys compliment my work for its authenticity.”
